Abstract

Maharah al-kitabah (Arabic writing skill) is a fundamental competence that poses challenges for learners, particularly regarding spelling accuracy, letter discrimination, and adherence to imla’ rules. This community service aimed to improve the Arabic spelling accuracy of members of the Indafa Arabic Language Community through imla’ method training. The activity was conducted using a participatory-educative approach involving observation, instructional material development, and systematic imla’ practice ranging from vocabulary to sentences, followed by collective correction and mentoring. The results show a significant improvement in the participants' writing accuracy, as evidenced by their increased ability to discriminate between similar-sounding Arabic letters and a higher degree of precision in applying spelling rules. Furthermore, participants demonstrated a marked increase in motivation and confidence in independent writing throughout the collaborative correction process. The activity resulted in the development of modular teaching materials and a sustainable imla’ practice model adopted by the community. This training confirms that the imla’ method is highly effective for community-based Arabic learning due to its practical, participatory, and adaptive nature.
