Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Qur’anic memorization (tahfidz) at Baitul Mustaqim Islamic Boarding School in Punggur, Central Lampung, by integrating pedagogical analysis with the living Qur’an approach. Previous studies on tahfidz have predominantly focused on the effectiveness of memorization methods and quantitative learning outcomes, with limited attention to its socio-religious dimensions within pesantren culture. Employing a qualitative case study design, this research was conducted over approximately two months (October–November 2025). Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth semi-structured interviews with four informants (one tahfidz supervisor and three active students), and document analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that tahfidz activities are implemented through structured daily routines, incremental memorization deposits, and tiered evaluations (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual). The Jet Tempur Lirboyo and Yanbu’a Kudus methods effectively enhance recitation accuracy, memorization retention, and students’ disciplinary habits. The novelty of this study lies in its application of the living Qur’an perspective, demonstrating that tahfidz functions not merely as an instructional technique but as a socio-religious practice that constructs a collective Qur’anic habitus within pesantren culture. This research contributes theoretically by expanding tahfidz studies beyond technical pedagogy toward an interdisciplinary understanding of lived religious education in Islamic boarding schools.
